RACER is the Reptile & Amphibian Collaborative Ecological Research group. We are UNH faculty, staff, students, and friends who love salamanders, frogs, turtles, and snakes.

We collaborate.

Our RACER group continues to grow and develop new research directions and monitoring initiatives. Our past and ongoing projects include:

• Freshwater turtle monitoring
• Terrestrial salamander monitoring (we run a SPARCnet site)
• Vernal-pool breeding amphibian and plant phenology
• Locomotor performance of different salamander morphs

We communicate.

We love to share what we know and what we’re doing.

• We talk with members of our UNH community.
• We explore vernal pools with our local K-12 community.
• We sketch and photograph frogs and salamanders and turtles, and share it happily on social media.
• We love to explain spring breeding migration to the nice police officers who check on us when we’re out on rainy nights driving slowly with our flashers on (thank you).

We are herp allies.

We are excited to witness the impressive overland migrations of the herps of our region and to help them safely cross the roads on big, rainy nights (or anytime they cross our path).
